Produced by Nickolas Crampton and McLaren Vale winegrower Jim Zerella as a high quality, varietal wines that are a great food matching for the Australian weather. The labels for the range are bold and slightly tongue in cheek, the wines are made and matured by Jim Zerella in McLaren Vale. The naturally cooler climes of the McLaren Vale allow for a longer ripening period, with the grapes being harvested from separate sites and then fermented separately before maturation in two to four-year-old oak barrels for six months. The Big Rivers component is fermented and matured in stainless steel before blending. A bright and inviting nose highlighting varietal blackberry and currant aromas combines beautifully with hints of bramble and savoury oak. Typical of McLaren Vale’s opulent take on Cabernet, the palate is full of dark berries and ripe plums before an impressively long finish given definition by fine tannins.
Shelf Life: 12 Months
