Seaside Squirrel - Comfrey Salve

I grow comfrey because it has many uses in the vegetable garden and is a wonderful plant for bees. For this salve, I harvest the root of the plant and dry it in the greenhouse for a few weeks. Once dried, the root is crushed to almost powder texture, and infused in organic olive oil at a sunny windowsill. This is the traditional folk method of making herbal medicines, and the oil takes on the properties of the plant by turning a light green, grey-like colour. Once strained, the infused oil is heated with wax sourced from a local beekeeper and poured into little tins to make a potent herbal ointment that keeps the skin healthy and alleviates joint pain. Before the salve sets, I add a couple of drops of lavender essential oil for extra scent.

Ingredients:
Comfrey root, organic olive oil, organic lavender essential oil, beeswax.

The tins are available in 30ml and 50ml.
