Asparagus Connover’s Colossal x 5 large plugs 1yr
A perennial vegetable grown for its delicious and nutritious shoots. Asparagus Connover’s Colossal is an old, self-fertile variety reliable in the Irish climate.
It has a good flavour and can be harvested after 2 years.
Plant outside in raised free draining trenches. add a little sand or very fine grit to loamy soil. Asparagus requires full sun a sheltered spot. Not very fond of disturbance so plant carefully and permanantly. Plants should keep producing upto 15years. the fruiting season lasts about 8 weeks from April. Each plant can produce upto 10 spears over the this period.
Mulch over winter and feed in spring every year. keep the plants well weeded.
Eventual height 1.2m and 45cm spread
Can be grown in a tunnel or large container.
