My name is Caroline McCarthy. I am a passionate artisan home-baker and started my business McCarthy Treats & Sweets, in July 2020.
I have developed a range of biscuits, tray-bakes, sweets and cakes that are free from dairy, gluten, and egg and in some cases soya. All my recipes have been developed my me with some ingredients prepared by myself and include: oatmeal; oat milk; condensed oatmilk; oatmilk cream, egg substitute; sauces and more recently, dairy-free chocolate ganache.
I started my home-baking business working in the travel and tourism sector! Coolscot Tours, run by my husband, David, brings foreign students to Scotland. We discovered that many of them had food intolerances or were vegan or vegetarian. Their constant complaint was that they found it difficult to find cafes that offered snacks that suited their dietary needs, and found that in many cases, they had to buy a meal.
So, out of curiosity, I decided to see if it was possible to produce a range of cakes and other treats that were free from gluten, dairy and egg. I started experimenting with recipes at the beginning of 2019 and over the following year, I developed my range of specialist products, starting with dairy-free tablet.
All my recipes are unique and I am continually experimenting an d developing new products.
