We are Macamore Buffalo!!
We are one of only three buffalo farms on the island of Ireland. Liam & Sinead Byrne purchased four baby buffalo calves in March 2016, then in August of that year, imported 16 in-calf cows from a farm in Wales plus 2 bulls and Macamore Buffalo was born. The initial idea was to produce cheese, but the financial investment was proving to be too great, so they turned their attention to meat production. Some quick research proved this was the way to go. Buffalo meat is considered a better quality meat. Across all cuts, buffalo meat is lower in calories and fat than beef is, and higher in protein. ... Buffalo offers more omega-3 fats than beef, and a better omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. The animals themselves require no dosing, injections or pour-ons. Happy animal, happy farmer and happy consumer. As of March 2020 the herd is about 85 strong with Macamore Buffalo on the menu in many hotels, restaurents, and pub eateries across the south-east, as well as a healthy online trade. Super-Valu Wexford & Gorey and of coarse...a wee shop on the farm.
