GIY’s is a non-for-profit social enterprise who’s primary aim is to support people to live healthier, happier and more sustainable lives by growing some of their own food. We want to inspire, support and teach people to grow their own food at home, school, work and in the community. When people grow some of their own food they develop a deeper understanding and connection with food which we call ‘Food Empathy’.
GROW HQ is the home of the GIY movement and our national food education centre in Waterford City. Set on 4 acres in Waterford City, we’re just across the road from University Hospital Waterford at Ardkeen. Our award-winning cafe serves the most nutritious, delicious, seasonal food and we put our veg centre stage (but we also showcase the finest free-range, local meat, poultry, fish and cheese). Mostly the distance from plot to plate is about 112 steps. Richard and the garden team grow it, JB and kitchen team cook it, and our lovely customers eat it.
